Short answer. Contribution is the percentage of a bet that counts toward the wagering requirement. Slots usually count 100%; table, card and live games count 5% to 20% or nothing; some games are excluded outright. Effective turnover = required turnover ÷ contribution rate. Clearing $4,000 on live blackjack at a 5% rate means $80,000 of real bets, and even at blackjack's 0.5% house edge that is $400 of expected loss, more than the $160 a 96% slot costs at 100%. The rule exists to stop players clearing bonuses on low-edge games.

The math
effective turnover = T ÷ c
expected loss = (T ÷ c) × house edge of the game
For T = $4,000:
| Game | Contribution c | House edge | Effective turnover | Expected loss |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 96% slot | 100% | 4% | $4,000 | $160 |
| 97.5% slot | 100% | 2.5% | $4,000 | $100 |
| 99.5% RTP arcade at Cloudbet | 10% | 0.5% | $40,000 | $200 |
| live blackjack at BitStarz | 5% | 0.5% | $80,000 | $400 |
| live game show at Sportsbet.io | 20% | ~4% | $20,000 | $800 |
| roulette at Pin-Up | 0% | n/a | cannot clear | n/a |
Double-count sections (22Bet, Megapari, Betwinner in-house games) work the other way: a 200% rate halves the effective turnover, but those sections exclude blackjack and carry their own house edges.
Practical reading of the rules
- Find the contribution table or the clause "contribute towards wagering".
- Check the exclusion list; at Sportsbet.io it runs to hundreds of titles.
- Check whether high-RTP games are capped (Cloudbet's 10% above 99.5% RTP).
- Use the calculator's contribution field; the verdict uses effective turnover, not nominal.
FAQ
Do table games count towards wagering? Rarely at full weight: 5% at BitStarz, 10% at Sportsbet.io and Cloudbet, 0% at Pin-Up in our verified set.
Why do casinos cut contribution on high-RTP games? Because a 99.5% RTP game would let a bonus be cleared at a fraction of the expected loss the casino priced in.
Do bets above the max bet count? At Pin-Up only the first €6 of a larger bet counts; at BitStarz a bet above €5 breaches the rules.
